Gnocchi With Crawfish and Andouille Cream Sauce

Seafood may not be among the comfort foods you had in mind, but once you see our crawfish gnocchi recipe, you’ll understand why it’s on this list. This meal is one of our favorite southern dinner ideas, and we’re pleased to share how to do it.

It only takes about 30 minutes to prepare, so you don’t need to spend the entire afternoon in the kitchen.

Check out the ingredients list and learn how to make this dish below.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz Crawfish tails (cooked)
  • 1 lb Potato gnocchi (cooked)
  • Two links andouille sausage
  • 2 cups Heavy cream
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup White onion (diced)
  • 1 tbsp Butter (unsalted)
  • Two cloves of garlic (minced)
  • Two springs thyme
  • One spring rosemary

Instructions

This isn’t one of the more difficult Southern dinner recipes, but to make sure everyone can follow the instructions, we’ve separated them into simple steps. Follow them carefully, and your dinner will look immaculate.

Step 1

Start by placing a large skillet on the stove. Set it to medium heat, then add the sausage. About five minutes later, you’ll notice the pieces have browned, which means they’ve had enough time on the heat.

Take the sausage out using a slotted spoon and transfer the pieces to a paper towel.

Step 2

Now, add butter to the pan. It will melt quickly, which is your sign to add the onions to the pan. Cook for the next five minutes, then add rosemary and garlic for an extra 30 seconds. Once they release their fragrance, proceed to step 3.

Step 3

Add chicken broth to the mix. Combine the ingredients, and cook for another 5 minutes. Once the mixture levels lower to half, you can add the cream. Stir to combine everything, then cook for another 10 minutes.

Then, add the crawfish tails for the final 5 minutes of cooking time.

Step 4

Don’t forget to remove thyme and rosemary sprigs from the pan. Then, add the cooked gnocchi, and stir to coat them in cream sauce.

The instructions for cooking gnocchi are always on the packaging. Follow them to make sure you get the appropriate results.

And that’s it! You’ve made one of our favorite Southern dinner ideas. Hopefully, this dish is among your favorites as well.

Beef Stroganoff

No Southern dinner menu can be complete without some beef. Luckily, this stroganoff is perfect for cold days and is among the comfort foods that can fix any sad afternoon.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs sirloin beef tips
  • 8 oz fresh mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • Two sweet onions, diced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • One package of egg noodles
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup sherry
  • 8 oz sour cream
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Fresh parsley

Instructions

This isn’t one of the Southern dinner ideas that’s difficult to make. Follow our instructions, and you’ll finish the task with no issues.

Step 1

Start by sprinkling the beef tips with some salt and pepper. In the meantime, heat some oil in a large skillet. Then, add the beef, and cook for a short time until it becomes brown.

Once it reaches the wanted temperature, add the mushrooms and the onion and let everything saute for about 3 to 5 minutes.

Step 2

Add the broth, tomato paste, and mustard into the saucepan. Stir everything in, then cover and reduce the heat to a low temperature. Cook the mixture until the beef becomes tender. This usually takes about 1 hour.

Step 3

It’s time to cook the noodles. Follow the packaging directions to reach the pasta’s perfect tenderness.

Step 4

Start the final step by combining the flour and the sherry. Stir that into the saucepan and cook the mixture until it thickens. Finally, stir in the sour cream and serve everything over hot noodles.

To finish the presentation, garnish the plate with some fresh parsley.

Pecan-Peach Cobbler

The one thing missing from our Southern dinner menu is a dessert. And what kind of comfort foods list would this be without something sweet?

Don’t worry. We saved the best for last. The ultimate Southern dessert, peach cobbler, is waiting for you to make it and enjoy the sweet tastes of the south.

Ingredients

  • 15 fresh peaches
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped and toasted
  • Two packages of refrigerated pie crusts
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 5 tbsp sugar, divided
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

Step 1

Just like most baking tasks, we’ll start this one by preheating the oven. Set it to 475 degrees F.

Step 2

Put the peaches, nutmeg, flour, and 3 cups of sugar in a Dutch oven and stir everything together. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat and let everything simmer for about 10 minutes.

After the time has passed, add butter and vanilla. Spoon half of the peach mixture into a baking dish. Make sure you lightly grease it beforehand.

Step 3

Sprinkle 1/4 cup of pecans over a pie crust, sprinkle with 2 tbsp sugar, then cover with the second pie crust. Roll the crust into a rectangle that fits your baking dish and place it over the peaches.

Step 4

Finally, it’s time for baking. Leave the dish in the oven for 20 minutes or until the crust becomes light brown. Then, sprinkle another 2 tbsp of sugar along with the remaining pecans, and cover with the last piece of pie crust.

Finally, add the remaining peach mixture, cover it with 1-inch strips and sprinkle the remaining 1 tbsp of sugar. Put the dish back on the stove for another 15 to 18 minutes.

Step 5

Serve this peach cobbler cold with some whipped cream to see why it’s one of our favorite Southern dinner recipes.
